The iconic lakefront estate that once belonged to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash last sold for $3.2 million, and as pictures show, the property is stunning. A new album comprised of never-before-heard tracks written by Johnny Cash will be released on June 28, aptly titled "Songwriter."

He traditionally began his concerts by introducing himself with "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash".[c] He began to follow that by "Folsom Prison Blues", one of his signature songs. His other signature songs include "I Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm", and "Man in Black". Sometime in the 1980s, country music icons Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash commissioned the late master builder Braxton Dixon to build a home for their son, Johnny Carter Cash. At that time, the younger Cash was just a teenager who eventually followed in his family’s legendary footsteps to become a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, musician, and producer. Dixon—aka Nashville’s builder to the stars—also restored and updated an 18th-century log cabin on the thickly wooded 21-acre parcel in Hendersonville, Tennessee, about 30 minutes outside of downtown Nashville. Now, the double-gabled house, which is set on nearly six acres not far from the Ojai Valley, has come to market for $1.795 million, listed by its current owner (who purchased the house in 2003 for $739,000, according to The Wall Street Journal).

It’s unclear how long he was there, and whether or not he purchased or rented the house. Johnny Cash may have come from Arkansas, but for years his heart was in Tennessee. He performed and recorded in Nashville and Memphis, and he made his home on a little ranch in Bon Aqua. Now, after years of lying empty, the country star’s old home is now open to the public as the Storytellers Museum. The house’s grounds include live oaks, an outdoor BBQ area and a swimming pool and pool house, plus corrals. Thirteen years after Johnny Cash’s passing, fans still make the pilgrimage to his lakefront estate in the middle of the Tennessee woods.

The Hendersonville Standard reported in 2020 that Nashville hedge fund manager Cristan Blackman and his wife, Tina Blackman, bought the land from Lakehouse Holdings, a limited liability company owned by Texas businessman James Gresham. Indeed, the legendary “Man in Black,” who died in 2003, designed and built the hillside home with his first wife, Vivian, in 1961, overseeing nearly every detail of the layout and orientation. He reportedly even used the rustic retreat to host impromptu concerts for the local townspeople below. The marriage, however, ended just five years after the property was built—and the superstar went on to marry fellow musician June Carter and relocate to Tennessee.
